In an increasingly cost-conscious and data driven healthcare market, Zimmer Biomet aims to provide high-quality clinical data to demonstrate the safety, effectiveness and value of its products and services.

Investigational research allows for a new product to be used in a clinical study to collect safety and effectiveness data to support a new marketing application and/or a new intended use/claim or certain modifications of a legally marketed device.

Post-market research and surveillance studies are required of, or agreed to, by a sponsor (i.e. Zimmer Biomet) that are conducted after the FDA or other regulatory authority has approved a product for marketing. Regulatory authorities use post-marketing study commitments to gather additional information about a device's safety, efficacy or use.

An investigator-initiated study is unsolicited, independent research in which the individual investigator (physician) designs and conducts the clinical investigation. The investigator assumes the responsibilities of all government regulations applicable for the conduct of the trial, not the company. Research support, in the form of product, funding and/or technical input, may be provided by the company.
